Celebrity unveils Edge class

Celebrity Cruises has revealed more details about its new Edge class of ships, the first of which will launch in 2018.

The 2,918-guest Celebrity Edge includes a Rooftop Garden and a Magic Carpet platform. The interiors have been designed by British designer Kelly Hoppen and architect Tom Wright of WKK.

“Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting, innovative and transformational ships I have ever been involved with,” said Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “The new features and refined design will establish a new baseline for ships from here on out.”

The Magic Carpet – a cantilevered platform on the starboard side of Celebrity Edge – is the size of a tennis court and is capable of scaling four  decks of the ship depending on the time of day. On deck 16 it becomes a speciality restaurant (Dinner on the Edge), on Deck 14 it becomes an open-air expansion of the pool area, on Deck 5 it creates an al-fresco dining area for a different speciality dining area while on Deck 2 it serves as a luxury embarkation station for “Edge Launches”.

The Rooftop Garden – an expansion on Celebrity’s Lawn Club concept – creates a space that is tended by gardeners on a daily basis and serves as a place for games during the day and live music during the evening.

“Our guests don’t want to just skim the world like a magazine – they want to feel a human connection with it,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “Every element of Celebrity Edge is meant to make that connection intense and unforgettable. Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives.”

In terms of accommodation, Celebrity Edge will be introducing Edge Staterooms with infinite verandas, which give guests open-air access to the sea. There will also be Iconic Suites situated above the ship’s bridge, offering panoramic views across the vessel’s bow.

Celebrity Edge will be the first in a class of four ships, the rest of which will be launched on 2020, 2021 and 2022.
