Clia UK & Ireland managing director Andy Harmer has received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the maritime sector.

The Honours List 2022 marks the public service of individuals across the UK in celebration of Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

Harmer said he was “thrilled and very grateful” by the recognition. He added: “It has been an incredibly challenging few years for everyone in our sector and the way we have all worked together to overcome such enormous challenges has been inspiring.

“I feel privileged every day to work for an industry that employs people from all over the world, people of all backgrounds who are passionate about what they do, creating unforgettable travel experiences.”

In total 1,134 people received an award in the Honours, and Harmer is one of 246 individuals to have been given an OBE.

A Clia spokesperson said: “Andy has worked within the travel industry for more than 24 years, including several years as a travel agent. As managing director of Clia UK & Ireland, Andy most recently spearheaded efforts during the pandemic to bring people together from across the transport, tourism, and maritime sectors to support the safe resumption of cruising.”

In May Harmer hosted the Clia UK & Ireland annual conference in Southampton.
