Cruise industry plots charity bike ride in September

Twelve cyclists from across the cruise sector will ride from Petersfield to the South Coast

Twelve cyclists from across the cruise sector will ride from Petersfield to the South Coast in the now-annual charity bike ride.

Cyclists will either take a 50 trip or 100-mile loop, and funds raised will be donated to the Family Holiday Association (FHA), a non-profit organisation which provides British seaside breaks and day trips to struggling families.

Previous fundraising efforts by Clia and cruise line members has meant that hundreds of families have been able to take a short break from home.

Taking part in the charity bike ride will be:

  • Ian Gilder, Adore Holidays and Cruises
  • Giles Hawke, Avalon Waterways
  • Richard Singer, icelolly.com
  • Dave Mills, Iglu.com
  • Bernie Carter, Oceania Cruises

Giles Hawke, CEO Cosmos and Avalon Waterways UK, said: “We believe that now is the right time to hold this fundraising event, as although we’re all struggling with our own business challenges and pressure on finances, there are many people in much more challenging situations and which the current climate will be making worse.

“Any funds we raise will help Family Holiday Association provide families with a well-deserved break, which can truly make all the difference to the quality of life for people living with real hardship. We understand that money may be tight at the moment and there may be some uncertainty, but any contribution no matter how big or small will be hugely appreciated by the Family Holiday Association and the families they help.”

The bike ride will take place on September 16. To donate, visit justgiving.com/fundraising/fhacycle
