Cunard and Canyon Ranch co-create new holistic spa concept
Mareel Wellness & Beauty will launch exclusively on board the newly refurbished Queen Elizabeth this December.
The spa concept will then launch on Queen Victoria later this month, followed by Queen Mary 2 from November 2020.
Mareel will offer a brand new luxury sanctuary featuring facilities including a new couples suite for seaweed bathing rituals, a meditation room with acoustic resonance loungers, a reconfigured multifunctional fitness centre and studio space, and new sound therapy facilities in every treatment room.
The spa and wellness treatments and expertise will be offered in partnership with Canyon Ranch, with a new and extensive spa treatment menu featuring marine-based experiences.
The word ‘Mareel’ is from the old Norse language meaning ‘phosphorescence of the ocean’ – a concept that’s evident throughout the spa.
Luxury products used within the new Mareel spa feature ingredients ingredients that are sustainably harvested, wild-picked, biodynamic and free of toxins.
Beyond the spa, new wellness experiences will be available on the ship’s daily activities programme, plus wellness seminars and open-air yoga.
The spa is part of a refurbishment of Queen Elizabeth during a two-week dry docking. Many of the ship’s public areas have been updated and all Grill Suites and Britannia Staterooms have new carpets and soft furnishings. The Royal Court Theatre has had a complete technical overhaul, while the aft sun deck has a new layout.
Angus Struthers, VP of marketing for Cunard, commented: “We are delighted to share news of Mareel Wellness & Beauty, Cunard’s first ever own spa concept. Wellbeing is key to life, and feeling relaxed in mind and body is an important part of any holiday, and we are thrilled to offer such a luxurious spa at sea for our guests.”
