Explora Journeys to launch from Southampton

The luxury lifestyle brand has delayed the introduction of its first ship Explora I, and it will now make its maiden voyage from the UK

New luxury lifestyle travel brand Explora Journeys has delayed the launch of its first vessel.

Explora I had been due to enter service in May 2023, but due to “global supply chain complications” this has been put back to July, meaning its maiden voyage will be from Southampton on July 17.

“Taking into consideration the challenging situation facing the world today including global supply chain complications we have had to take the difficult decision, agreed with the shipyard, Fincantieri, to update our ship’s coming into service schedule,” said Michael Ungerer, chief executive officer, Explora Journeys.

“The additional time at the shipyard and at sea prior to her first journey will be utilised to ensure that Explora I can and will deliver to the fullest on our brand’s promise and vision – making absolutely no compromise on quality and luxury, our primary objective.”

In a statement, Explora said travel agents had been updated on the new details of the inaugural journey and guests offered a full refund and a future journey credit.

The line added that agents would have the full value of their commission protected already paid on the original booked cruise and will receive their commission on the value of any future journey credit booked.
