Fred Olsen reconfirms commitment to the trade
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines announced that it would be giving away a car for Christmas as part of its next major trade campaign.
The Fred Olsen Big Giveaway will also see agents in with the chance of winning a cruise every month, Mike Evans, the company’s head of sales, revealed.
Speaking at Closer, Fred Olsen’s first Trade Conference in 10 years, Evans also said that the company would be running its 2018 Mega Fam to the Middle East and India on 4 October.
During the conference sessions, Justin Stanton, Fred Olsen’s sales and marketing director said that the company’s profits were at a 10-year high. He added that despite Fred Olsen investing in consumer advertising, they had no intention of increasing their direct business, adding that “people buying from travel agents is not going to change any time soon”.
I’m delighted with the responses and the feedback – it has helped people understand what we do better
Their advertising campaigns were designed to bring people into travel agencies, he added.
Evans told Cruise Adviser: “The main reason we held this event was to get closer to travel agents. One of my briefs as head of sales was to increase our exposure and as an event this has worked incredibly well. I’m delighted with the responses and the feedback – it has helped people understand what we do better.”
During a presentation on destinations, Martin Lister, the firm’s head of itinerary planning, said that the company would be adding more “Closer” berths to its programme from next year. The calls – defined by the line as being within 1km of the port gates and so closer downtown – include all itineraries on Braemar in 2019.
