Government limits UK cruises to 1,000 guests or 50%

It is hoped limits will no longer apply from June 21

The government has issued new advice which states that no more than 1,000 passengers will be allowed to board a cruise between May 17 and June 21.

In advice published today, the Department for Transport said cruises out of the UK in early summer will “be able to operate with up to 1,000 people or 50 per cent capacity, whichever is lower”.

The government also made it clear that groups of more than six people, or two households, would not be allowed to mix indoors.

MSC Cruises is currently scheduled to begin sailing on May 20, from Southampton.

By June 21, it is hoped that the restrictions will no longer be in place.

The announcement also reiterated the current ban on international holidays.
