Holland America Line launches anniversary beer

The line is celebrating 150 years of operation with the limited-edition HAL Pils, in partnership with Pike Brewing in Seattle

Holland America Line is introducing a limited-edition Pilsner beer as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations.

HAL Pils is being made in partnership with Seattle-based Pike Brewing and will be served across the line’s fleet from January 2023. Six-packs also will be available for purchase in the onboard shops.

“A special-edition brew in a beautiful collector’s can is the perfect way to mark our 150th anniversary,” said Anthony Stice, vice president of dining and beverage operations for Holland America Line.

“There’s no better way to honour our past and celebrate our present than to choose a classic beer style like a Pilsner that’s having a resurgence in the craft beer world. It’s clean, refreshing and crisp and our guests are really going to enjoy this exclusive production.”

The line’s ship Rotterdam arrived in New York last week following a transatlantic crossing from the Netherlands in a recreation of the maiden voyage of Holland America Line’s first ship – the original Rotterdam – that departed the Dutch city on October 15, 1872.

During the crossing, guests were treated to exclusive menus that showcase HAL’s 150-year history with entrées each evening reminiscent of dishes served as far back as the 1920s.

In addition to the cuisine, special programming included a Throwback Happy Hour that rolled back time with drinks priced from 25 cents.

There will be another 150th Anniversary Transatlantic crossing from New York to Rotterdam departing on April 6, 2023.
