Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady stars in The Apprentice

The aspiring entrepreneurs are faced with a challenge onboard the liner

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady played a starring role in the first episode of the new series of The Apprentice.

The episode, which aired on January 6, saw 16 aspiring entrepreneurs setting sail from Portsmouth on board Scarlet Lady.

Lord Alan Sugar tasked the hopefuls with coming up with marketing campaigns for the new cruise liner, including a television advert and a social media tease.

Now available on iPlayer, the BBC website said that the show saw one team’s approach to design being “far from plain sailing, while on the other team, discord during the advert filming leads to choppy waters. Later, both teams attempt to cruise into the lead when pitching their ad campaigns to industry experts, but they end up with that sinking feeling”.

Virgin’s first-ever cruise ship Scarlet Lady is an adults-only liner with 17 decks. The ship has rockstar-style suites and a tattoo parlour.

The 16th series of The Apprentice was filmed entirely in the UK due to the pandemic.

This year’s candidates include three reality TV stars, including Rich Kids Go Skint’s Navid Sole, The Island With Bear Grylls’ Kathryn Burn and The Bachelor’s Amy Anzel. There’s also a pyjama retailer, a pharmacist and a dessert shop owner among the hopefuls.
