MSC Opera to be a floating hotel during the World Cup

It is the third MSC Cruises vessel to be commandeered for additional accommodation in Qatar ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

MSC Cruises has announced that a third ship from its fleet will be used as a floating hotel in Qatar for 2022 FIFA World Cup

The 2,579-passenger MSC Opera will join MSC World Europa and MSC Poesia in Doha for the duration of the tournament, which takes place between November 19 and December 19.

All three can be booked for two or more nights by anyone visiting the city and are not restricted to football fans.

The deployment of the ship was confirmed in partnership with Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

Meanwhile, Liverpool City Council is considering a similar move to help with the shortage in accommodation in the city for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Most hotel rooms sold out immediately after the announcement that the city was to be hosting the event, which takes place in May 2023.

Marketing Liverpool director Chris Brown said the city’s plans “could involve cruise ships or a campsite”.
