New A-Rosa ship given Green Award
The hybrid E-Motion river cruise vessel has been recognised by the Green Award Foundation for its innovative environmental credentials
A-Rosa River Cruises’ new ship A-Rosa Sena has been awarded a prestigious gold Green Award for its innovative environmental credentials.
The E-Motion vessel, which launched in June, is the line’s biggest to date and is currently sailing on the Rhine. It features a hybrid propulsion system which combines a diesel engine and a battery-powered electric motor.
“The gold level can only be achieved if a ship meets both very high safety standards and ecological requirements,” said the ship’s captain, Ulli Schwalbe.
“The decisive factors for the gold classification were, among other things, the AdBlue exhaust gas cleaning system, the modern Stage V diesel engines and, of course, the efficient energy management with battery storage.”
A-Rosa Sena is fitted with an exhaust heat recovery system that enables it to convert exhaust heat into electricity and store it in the batteries for use when required.
The Green Award certification is awarded by the Green Award Foundation to ships and shipping firms which have invested in improving environmental performance.
