On the road:
Andrew Schweitzer
What does your job entail on a day-to-day basis?
The thing I love most about my job is how varied it is. I’m often out on the road, visiting travel agents where I could be training the staff on our range of products, giving sales updates or conducting a presentation for their clients. Basically trying to do whatever I can to help drive as many Viking sales through the agents’ doors. When I’m in the office, I can usually be found with my head down, working on commercials and catching up on emails and admin.
How long have you worked in travel?
Nearly 17 years.
What’s the best thing about being on the road?
I love that every day is different. I get to meet a number of people on a daily basis, and I have the opportunity to build and grow relationships with them which is really rewarding.
What’s the worst?
Living out of a suitcase isn’t always ideal. I do miss home comforts at times.
Favorite place to visit?
I’ve got quite a few, but I particularly like visiting the south west. The countryside there is gorgeous.
What do you listen to in the car?
Usually cheesy pop music – it keeps me sane on the long drives.
One thing you couldn’t live without on the road?
Definitely my phone!
What’s your favourite thing about working for Viking?
Every day I get to work alongside a brilliant group of individuals. It really does feel like one big family at Viking, so it makes coming to work extremely enjoyable. I truly believe that we have the best cruise product out there – for both river and ocean – so having the opportunity to talk about a product that I’m so passionate about every day really is fantastic.
Biggest myth about Viking?
We all wear horned helmets and speak with a Scandinavian accent!
