Princess announces more Med cruises for new ship

Sun Princess launches in 2024 and its inaugural season will include itineraries that start or end in Southampton

Princess Cruises has announced additional Mediterranean voyages for the inaugural season of its newest ship, Sun Princess, which launches in 2024.

As previously announced, the 4,300-guest ship will enter service on a 10-night Grand Mediterranean voyage on February 8, 2024. The additional itineraries include a visit to Southampton on September 22 and 23, 2024.

The full season includes 10-night cruises in the Western and Eastern Mediterranean and a series of seven-night voyages departing from either Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia) or Athens, which can be combined for 14-night or 21-night voyages.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the 175,500-tonne liquefied natural gas-powered Sun Princess will feature more than 1,500 balcony staterooms as well as more than 29 restaurants and bars over 21 decks.

Eithne Williamson, vice president Princess Cruises UK and Europe, said: “Welcoming the beautiful Sun Princess to Southampton in 2024 will mark a very special visit, as it will be the first time a brand-new ship in the Princess fleet has called in to a UK port during a maiden season in more than 10 years.

Sun Princess will also be our first ship to be powered by eco-friendly LNG, just one of a host of ways we are honouring our commitment to sustainable operations.”

The full inaugural season will go on sale on December 14, 2022. Past Princess guests are eligible for a Captain’s Circle Launch Discount if they book before January 31, 2023.
