Princess Cruises unveils next generation ship
Sun Princess is the first Sphere-class vessel and the line’s largest, with the first-ever geodesic dome and innovative entertainment venues
Princess Cruises has unveiled details of its largest ever ship, Sun Princess.
Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the 175,500-tonne vessel will accommodate 4,300 guests.
It will feature The Dome, a glass-covered geodesic structure that is the first of its kind at sea. Inside is a cutting-edge entertainment space inspired by the terraces of Santorini that is a pool during the day and a stage at night.
There will also be more than 29 dining and bar options, with the Piazza spanning three storeys, offering guests an outward looking suspended space with comfortable seating and areas to enjoy the ocean views in every direction. An LED screen in the centre can be moved and configured to deliver live entertainment.
“Sun Princess is a new and bespoke ship platform, designed to simultaneously embrace Princess heritage while boldly pressing into the future with iconic, elegant and pure lines unique to our brand,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises.
“A show-stopping, first-of-its-kind Dome on the top deck and suspended glass Piazza in the centre of Sun Princess offer innovative designs showcasing expansive ocean views for incredible opportunities to connect with the sea.”
Sun Princess will sail an inaugural spring/summer season of Mediterranean cruises from February 2024 followed by Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages out of Port Everglades, Florida in autumn 2024. The second Sphere-class vessel will follow in 2025.
