Royal Caribbean unveils Icon of the Seas
The first Icon Class ship will sail from January 2024, and features a number of industry firsts and returning favourites
Royal Caribbean International has revealed details of its newest ship, Icon of the Seas.
The first of the new Icon Class will have capacity for 5610 guests and debuts in January 2024. It features a number of industry firsts and returning favourites.
It will also be the line’s most sustainable ship to date, employing fuel cell technology and powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), it features shore-side power connection and waste heat recovery systems.
Of the ship’s eight ‘neighbourhoods’, five are brand new. Thrill Island features the largest waterpark at sea, with six record-breaking slides, including Frightening Bolt, the tallest drop slide on a ship.
Chill Island features a swim-up bar, the largest pool at sea and Cloud 17, an adults-only retreat.
Surfside caters for young families and features the Water’s Edge pool, plus an arcade, Adventure Ocean and Social020 for teens.
The Hideaway is a beach club featuring he first suspended infinity pool at sea at its centre, surrounded by a multilevel sun terrace with whirlpools.
The AquaDome converts form a tranquil oasis by day, to a vibrant night-spot with restaurants, bars and the cruise line’s marquee aqua shows at the AquaTheater.

There are 28 different accommodation options for families of three, four, five and more, such as the Family Infinite Balcony, the Surfside Family Suite and the three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse, which comes with white picket fence and a mailbox.

Icon of the Seas will sail year-round, seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with every cruise visiting Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
