Saga names two river cruise ships

Broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray is the godmother for both vessels

Saga named two river cruise ships in Arnhem on Saturday (March 19).

The Spirit of the Danube has now started its inaugural seven-day Dutch and Belgian Waterways cruise, while sister ship Spirit of the Rhine will commence her first itinerary on the Rhine on March 23.

The two ships’ godmother is broadcaster and journalist Dame Jenni Murray, who writes a monthly column in Saga Magazine.

Each vessel has four passenger decks and 91 guest cabins, hosting up to 182 customers and up to 50 crew. There are two different types of cabin available on both ships. Spirit of the Rhine’s interior design is similar to Saga’s larger ocean ships while Spirit of the Danube is based on an art nouveau and Danube Delta theme, with elements such as migratory birds used throughout the ship.

Last week Spirit of the Danube was presented with its Green Award ‘Gold’ rating.

Saga announced in January that it was terminating the majority of its trade relationships.
