Sylvia Earle named godmother of Explora I

Explora Journeys has announced that Sylvia Earle, the renowned oceanographer, will be the godmother of its first ship Explora I.

AE Expeditions named its second purpose-built ship after Earle. She was also that ship’s godmother.

Dr Earle has dedicated much of her life to ocean conservation and is the founder of Mission Blue, a foundation created to protect the ocean.

“I am honoured to be chosen as the godmother for Explora I and I look forward to a meaningful relationship between Mission Blue, Explora Journeys and the MSC Foundation toward protecting and restoring the ocean globally,” Earle said.

Michael Ungerer, the chief executive of Explora Journeys, said: “We are honoured to have Dr Sylvia Earle as the godmother of our first luxury ship, Explora I.

“Her lifelong commitment to ocean conservation and exploration makes her an inspiration to us all. We share her passion for protecting the world’s oceans and we are excited to partner with her on this important mission.”
