Viking returns to the Mekong

Viking Saigon finally enters service as the line carries its first guests on the south-east Asian river since 2020

Viking’s new ship Viking Saigon has started its inaugural season on the Mekong River.

The purpose-built 80-passenger vessel was originally due to enter service last year, but this was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The three-deck vessel features a spa and fitness centre, infinity pool and open-air bar on the top deck.

It sails between Kampong Cham, Cambodia and My Tho, Vietnam as part of the 15-day itinerary Magnificent Mekong itinerary.

Regular sailing dates are available to March 2023, with the next season beginning in July 2023. Hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City are included alongside eight days sailing on the Mekong.

Viking is offering a discount of £750 per person across all 2023 river cruises, including the Magnificent Mekong itinerary, for bookings made by December 31.

Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said: “The fascinating cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made this region a favourite destination among our guests.

“We are also pleased to welcome back to south-east Asia our first guests since early 2020.

“With arrival of the Viking Saigon, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to this iconic waterway in the coming years.”
