Viva launches new themed cruises for 2023

The river cruise specialist is offering a series of historical, cultural and wine cruises on its small ship Swiss Ruby

River cruise specialist Viva Cruises has launched a series of themed cruises for 2023.

They include the 11-night Big Cities and Hanseatic Flair itinerary, which revolves around the theme of the Hanseatic League – a powerful trading network that dominated medieval Europe. It includes a visit to Amsterdam, the coffee museum in the German town of Minden and the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg.

The Northern Germany Explorer will stop in Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf and includes a visit to the Ruhr coalfield. On selected sailings Ben O. Bömkes will entertain guests with his famous accordion.

The series concludes with autumnal wine cruises on the rivers Rhine, Neckar, Moselle and Saar. There are four different journeys on offer visit some of the best wine-growing regions in Germany. Wine expert Sonja Heinz and Koblenz vintner Christoph Müller will join guests on board.

Prices start from just £1,695 per person for an eight-day cruise and all sailings take place on the line’s ‘culture ship’ Swiss Ruby.

The vessel is only 85m long and holds 88 passengers. Its small size allows it to use waterways that are inaccessible to larger vessels, permitting the themed itineraries to pass through narrow European rivers including the Neckar, Saar, Elbe, Weser, Havel, Meuse and Ems.
