Hong Kong started the year on a high note as Luminara, the newest yacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, made its maiden call on January 13, 2026.

The arrival marked more than just another ship in port; it signaled Hong Kong’s growing appeal to ultra-luxury cruise brands and high-end travelers.

Sailing gracefully into Victoria Harbour, Luminara docked at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, framed by the city’s world-famous skyline.

To welcome the yacht, the Hong Kong Tourism Board organized a ceremonial water salute, paired with vibrant dragon and lion dances that celebrated local tradition.

The moment blended modern luxury with cultural heritage, offering guests an unforgettable first impression of the city. A welcoming luncheon was later hosted onboard, bringing together tourism officials and executives from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

Among the guests were Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law, Commissioner for Tourism Angelina Cheung, HKTB Executive Director Anthony Lau, and senior company representatives.

Law described the visit as a strong start to the year and a clear sign that Hong Kong continues to attract both large cruise ships and exclusive luxury yachts.

She added that the arrival reflects the city’s ability to serve a wide range of cruise travelers, from mass-market guests to those seeking premium, personalized experiences.

Following its debut, Luminara will spend the coming months sailing Asia-Pacific itineraries, with Hong Kong playing a key role as a homeport.

The yacht began its regional deployment from Singapore late last year and now adds Hong Kong as a major turnaround destination. Tourism leaders noted that strengthening partnerships with cruise operators remains central to Hong Kong’s strategy as Asia’s leading cruise hub.

For The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, the expansion into Asia-Pacific is a carefully planned step in the brand’s global growth.

President and CEO Ernesto Fara said Luminara represents the company’s most elevated vision yet, combining legendary service, thoughtful design, and an intimate onboard atmosphere.

He explained that the itineraries are intentionally unhurried, allowing guests to explore marquee cities and quieter islands through longer stays and overnight visits.

The maiden call also comes as Hong Kong continues to strengthen its cruise infrastructure, with authorities recently opening a tender for a new operator at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal to support long-term growth in high-end and homeport sailings.

Upcoming voyages will connect Hong Kong with Singapore and Tokyo, calling at destinations such as Osaka, Bangkok, Incheon, Ha Long Bay, and Ho Chi Minh City.

By offering a more relaxed and immersive way to explore Asia, Luminara is helping redefine what luxury travel at sea looks like in the region.
