Atlas Ocean Voyages is preparing to take a major step forward with the launch of a brand-new luxury expedition sailing ship.

The vessel, named the Atlas Adventurer, is designed to carry up to 400 guests and is scheduled for delivery in November 2028.

Company president and CEO James A. Rodriguez described the project as a defining moment for the brand. He said the ship represents an entirely new class of vessel that aims to set a fresh benchmark for luxury expedition cruising.

Unlike traditional expedition ships, the Atlas Adventurer will combine sailing technology with modern expedition design. Rodriguez emphasized that this is not just an expansion, but a strategic evolution shaped by years of guest feedback and experience.

A Sailing Ship Built for Global Expeditions

The Atlas Adventurer has been ordered by Mystic Invest and will be constructed in China under a December contract. At 26,000 tons, the ship will be significantly larger than Atlas’ current fleet of 200-guest expedition vessels.

For its debut season, the ship will offer 15 voyages that trace a sweeping route from Asia to Africa and onward to the Mediterranean. One standout option includes a 128-day grand voyage sailing from Japan to South Africa.

Rodriguez explained that these itineraries will introduce entirely new regions and ports for the brand. The goal is to reward loyal guests with fresh destinations while appealing to experienced travelers seeking something truly different.

Plans also include deploying the ship to Antarctica, where its ice-class rating will set it apart. Atlas expects the ship to become the only luxury expedition sailing vessel capable of operating in polar waters.

Innovation, Efficiency, and a Clear Brand Vision

One of the most notable features of the Atlas Adventurer is its focus on efficiency and sustainability. Rodriguez said the ship is expected to achieve up to 40 percent fuel savings when wind conditions allow.

The vessel will also be equipped with a powerful 9-megawatt battery system to support low-emission operations. These technologies are designed to balance performance with environmental responsibility across long-distance expeditions.

The announcement follows a wave of new superyacht unveilings across Europe, including Baglietto’s recently revealed DOM155 flagship, which is also drawing attention for its larger volume and 2029 delivery timeline.

Choosing a larger ship was a deliberate decision, according to Rodriguez. He explained that the size better suits the high-net-worth travelers Atlas targets while allowing greater onboard comfort and programming.

While Atlas remains strongest in the U.S. market, interest is growing steadily in the UK and Australia.
Rodriguez believes the company’s cruise-first mindset and deep industry experience give it an edge as competition increases.

With priority bookings already open, the Atlas Adventurer marks a confident step into the future of luxury expedition sailing.
