Silver Muse Extends Malta Stay After Bad Weather Forces Itinerary Change

Silversea’s luxury cruise ship Silver Muse recently had to rethink its Mediterranean itinerary after severe weather began affecting Southern Europe.

Rather than push ahead into rough seas, the ship remained docked in Valletta, Malta, for two additional days to ensure guest safety and comfort.

The ten-night Western Mediterranean sailing, which began in mid-January, was originally planned to include stops in Tunisia and Italy.

However, worsening weather conditions made it unsafe to follow the original route, forcing the ship to make careful changes.

As a result of the extended stay in Malta, the Silver Muse was unable to visit Tunis in Tunisia and Cagliari in Sardinia. Instead, the ship followed a revised course while keeping its scheduled arrival in Valencia, Spain, on track.

Captain Explains the Decision Onboard

Guests were personally informed of the changes by Captain Kosta Doroshenko, who explained that the decision was driven by safety concerns.

He noted that a strong low-pressure system was expected to bring heavy winds and high seas along the ship’s planned route.

The captain said the ship’s meteorology team had been closely monitoring forecasts and found no signs of improvement in conditions.

With passenger safety always taking priority, the crew chose to remain in Valletta rather than risk an uncomfortable or dangerous crossing.

By adjusting the route early, the Silver Muse was able to avoid the worst of the weather while still delivering a smooth sailing experience. The move also allowed guests more time to enjoy Malta without rushing through uncertain conditions at sea.

Guests Receive Compensation for Missed Ports

While itinerary changes are never ideal, Silversea acknowledged the impact on guests and offered compensation. Passengers onboard will receive a Future Cruise Credit equal to two days of their cruise fare.

According to the ship’s announcement, the credit will be emailed to guests within 20 business days after the voyage ends. It can be used toward a new Silversea booking within the next 24 months.

The Silver Muse recently returned to service following a drydock in late 2025 and is currently sailing its winter Mediterranean season.

The ship’s current voyage departed from Civitavecchia on January 12, 2026, offering a mix of Italian, Maltese and Spanish destinations.

While the weather may have altered the plan, guests were reassured that every decision was made with their comfort and safety in mind.
