MSC to Build Second Private Island Near Ocean Cay in Major Bahamas Expansion

MSC Cruises is quietly making big moves in the Bahamas, and it’s clear the cruise line isn’t done evolving Ocean Cay just yet.

The company has confirmed plans to build a second private island right next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, expanding its footprint near Bimini.

The new destination, currently known internally as Little Cay, will be developed as part of a long-term vision rather than a quick add-on.

MSC says the island will follow the same nature-first approach that made Ocean Cay popular, focusing on beaches, open space, and a strong connection to the ocean.

There’s no opening date yet, and MSC hasn’t rushed out flashy details. Instead, the message is simple: this will be a calmer, thoughtfully designed space that complements Ocean Cay rather than competes with it.

Ocean Cay Itself Is Getting Bigger and Better

At the same time, MSC is investing heavily in upgrades to Ocean Cay, which has been welcoming guests since 2019. One of the most practical improvements will be an extended pier, set to open in late 2027, allowing two ships to dock at once.

Guests can also expect noticeable changes around the island. A brand-new adults-only area called Paradise Sands is being created for travelers who want a quieter, more relaxed beach day.

Food options are expanding too, with more buffet-style choices and food market concepts on the way. MSC also plans to introduce its first specialty restaurant on the island, adding a more elevated dining option to the mix.

More for Families and a Deeper Focus on the Ocean

Families visiting Ocean Cay will see upgrades at Seakers Cove Family Beach, which is being redesigned with younger guests in mind. New features include a playground, splash pad, and a ropes course with water elements for active kids.

The space will also host casual games and group activities like football, ping-pong, and interactive challenges. The idea is to make the island feel lively and engaging without overwhelming the natural setting.

The investment follows a broader push by MSC Cruises to strengthen its footprint in the Bahamas, including plans for new cruise infrastructure aimed at supporting long-term growth in the region.

Beyond fun and relaxation, MSC is also leaning into education and conservation. A new MSC Foundation “Shifting Perspective” Experience will give guests a closer look at marine life and the island’s environmental restoration work.

With a second island in development and major enhancements coming to Ocean Cay, MSC is clearly playing the long game.

Rather than standing still, the cruise line is building a destination that keeps evolving giving guests new reasons to look forward to every return visit.
