The United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has given cruise lines technical details on what they will need to do to begin operating, starting with a series of planned trial voyages.
The test cruises are seen as the first step in getting cruises out of the US back operating.
Self-service food and drink options will be unavailable and shore excursions must be part of a pre-booked, approved tour. Guests on board will have to socially distance.
However, if 98 percent of crew are fully vaccinated and 95 percent of passengers are vaccinated, a cruise operator does not need to conduct simulated sailings.
The trial cruises will be between two- and seven-days long. The CDC said that needs 30-days notice, meaning that the first cruises out of the US could begin at towards the start of June.
