Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge has made her maiden call at the Port of Newcastle, marking the first time an Edge Class ship has visited the northern English port.
The call brings one of the cruise industry’s most modern vessels to the region as part of its Northern Europe deployment.
The 130,818-gross-ton ship can carry up to 4,000 passengers, making her the largest cruise ship to visit Newcastle to date. Port officials and local representatives welcomed the vessel on arrival.
Celebrity Edge is currently sailing a series of Northern Europe itineraries, calling at ports across the UK and the region. The Newcastle visit forms part of that seasonal program.
Delivered in 2018, Celebrity Edge was the first ship in Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Class. The vessel introduced several design features that have since become central to the brand, including the Magic Carpet, a movable cantilevered platform positioned along the ship’s starboard side.
At double occupancy, the ship accommodates approximately 4,000 guests, supported by more than 1,300 crew members. Public spaces include a multi-deck Rooftop Garden, premium dining venues and expanded suite-only areas.
Celebrity Cruises continues to deploy Edge Class ships across both European and North American markets. The Newcastle call places the port among a growing list of destinations capable of hosting large, next-generation cruise ships.
