Oceania Cruises has offered its first detailed look at the inaugural season of Oceania Cruises newest ship, the Oceania Sonata, marking a major milestone for the brand’s future.

Set to debut in August 2027, the Sonata will be the first vessel in Oceania’s all-new Sonata Class, a series designed to elevate comfort, space, and destination-focused cruising.

The maiden season will include 22 voyages running from August 2027 through April 2028. Sailings range from seven to 16 days and span more than 90 destinations, giving travelers plenty of choice right from the ship’s first year.

Bookings officially open on January 28, 2026, but guests can already preview itineraries online as excitement builds around the new class of ships.

A Mediterranean Debut Rich in Culture and Character

The Oceania Sonata’s very first voyage will depart from Rome (Civitavecchia) on August 7, 2027, launching a 14-night journey to Trieste.

Along the way, the ship will call at a mix of iconic and lesser-visited ports, including Catania, Valletta, Katakolon, Bar, and Zadar, blending well-known highlights with quieter coastal gems.

The shift aligns with Oceania’s broader focus on refined, experience-driven cruising, a strategy already evident as Oceania Cruises has quietly transitioned into an adults-only brand, reshaping how the line positions itself in the luxury market.

Throughout the season, the ship will explore major European cities such as Barcelona, Athens, Lisbon, Istanbul, Livorno, and Bordeaux. At the same time, it will also visit smaller destinations like Paros, Koper, Sarandë, and Palamós, places that align closely with Oceania’s focus on immersive travel.

According to the cruise line, the itineraries are designed to feel unrushed, allowing guests more time ashore and a deeper connection to each destination.

From Europe to the Tropics and Beyond

After completing her Mediterranean sailings, the Oceania Sonata will cross the Atlantic and reposition to Miami to begin her inaugural tropical season.

These voyages will introduce guests to classic Caribbean ports such as Bridgetown and Tortola, alongside lesser-known stops in Central and South America, including Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa and Puerto Quetzal.

One standout highlight of the season is a daylight transit of the Panama Canal, offering guests a rare chance to experience the engineering marvel in full view.

Oceania Cruises says the Sonata’s first season reflects the direction of the brand, combining refined onboard comfort with thoughtfully planned routes that prioritize discovery over distance.

As the first of four Sonata Class ships, the Oceania Sonata is expected to set the standard for what’s to come, signaling a fresh chapter for the line as it looks ahead to the next decade of luxury cruising.
