Magellan joins Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet

Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) has welcomed flagship Magellan to its fleet ahead of its maiden voyage in March.

The vessel will now drydock in Greece for refitting before heading to the UK for spring.

Launch events will precede its Solar Eclipse and Northern Lights cruise, which will depart from Tilbury on March 15. The ship will also sail from both the Port of Tyne and Dundee.

CMV commercial director, Chris Coates, said: “The addition of Magellan to our fleet brings a new dimension in cruising to CMV.

“Since launching Magellan’s programme on November 3, we have sold 60% of her capacity, which clearly demonstrates the strong demand for our product and smaller ship cruising.”

In November, Christian Verhounig, CEO and chairman of CMV, said the acquisition of the ship was “another important milestone in the expansion and strategic development of the group’s presence in the UK and wider international markets”.

“The CMV brand is now creating much wider recognition and we remain confident that our medium to longer term growth objectives will be achieved,” he added.

The 1,250-passenger ship, previously Ibero Cruises’ Grand Holiday, was built in 1985.
