Norwegian Getaway: Kids’ clubs
Norwegian Getaway, the newest addition to Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet is one of the most accommodating family cruise lines on the sea right now. But what exactly is available?
Are your kids Guppies, Dolphins or even Turtles? Have no idea what we’re talking about? Cruise Adviser is here to help. Here we go through the multitude of kids’ clubs available to young cruisers onboard in our Norwegian Getaway: Kids’ clubs special.
Before we begin, what exactly is the Splash Academy?
The Splash Academy is a term that applies to the clubs for any child between six months and 12-years of age. That’s a pretty wide spectrum, so Norwegian Cruise Line has split the Splash Academy into four separate groups, depending on age. However, confusingly, the Splash Academy is also a venue for children aged between three and 12. Clear? OK, here goes:
Guppies: 6 months to 2 years old
For the youngest cruisers onboard there is the ‘Guppies’ programme, which is touted as “parent supervised and hosted by our certified and energetic staff”. Activities include Sensory Exploration, Baby Disco and messy art using Wee Can Too edible paints. All classes are complimentary.
Turtles: 3 to 5 years old
Children slightly older than Guppies will be in the Turtles group. Activities include sports sessions, fun with Nickelodeon characters and pyjama parties. While day time sessions are complimentary, parents will pay US$6 for their children to be taken to lunch (Port Play Meals) and there is also a late night service – between 10:30pm-1:30am – which costs US$6 per child per hour and US$4 for additional siblings. However, the Nintendo Wii is bought out for the late night.
Seals: 6 to 9 years old
If you’re too old to be a Turtle then you’re a Seal in Norwegian Cruise Line terms. There are board games, video games and Hollywood parties that include walking on the red carpet. All sessions are complimentary apart from Port Play Meals and Late Night Fun Zone.
Dolphins: 10 to 12 years olds
The Dolphins club at Splash Academy shares many activities with the Seals but at certain times breaks away for sessions more suited to 10 to 12 year olds. Specific activities include ‘Time It to Win It’, which is described as “fast paced challenges to beat the clock” and ‘Island Survivors’, which is a team game where tribes compete to make it off Survivor Island. All activities are complimentary apart from Port Play Meals and Late Night Fun Zone.
Entourage: 13-17 year olds
Children above the age of 12 have a special area away from the Splash Academy, which has more the air of a youth club than children’s facility. Entourage comes with computer games, air hockey tables, a dance floor with juke box, pool parties and times using the sports complex. Everything in Entourage is complimentary – including lunches and the room is open from 11am-1am while at sea and 7pm-1am while in port.
