Princess wins Best Cruise Line at the Cruise International Awards 2014

Princess Cruises has been named Best Cruise Line at the Cruise International Awards 2014.

The British-American line was bestowed with the prestigious award at the ceremony at the Roof Gardens in Kensington, London, on Tuesday night.

Princess was also named as Highly Commended in the Best for Food and Best for Enrichment categories, while Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway, which debuted in January, was named Best New Ship.

Elsewhere, Viking River Cruises picked up the Best River Cruise Line award for the fourth year running as its chairman, Torstein Hagen, was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to the Cruise Industry award.

Speaking after the event, Hagen said: “I am very honoured to receive this award and delighted to accept this on behalf of the Viking staff worldwide, of which there are over 4,000.

“I have been in the cruise industry from the early 1980s and I believed then what I still believe today, river cruising is a phenomenal product and we have done our share to develop it.”

Liz Jarvis, Editor of Cruise International, said: “2014 has been yet another fantastic year for the cruise industry, with more exciting new ship launches and new itineraries.

“The Cruise Awards celebrate the best of the cruise industry, and because they’re voted for by the holidaymakers themselves, they’re an excellent benchmark of consumer opinion”.

The awards were voted for by 25,000 holidaymakers and received over 13,000 nominations. You can see the full list of winners here.
