Ray Steward, the country manager of Tauck UK & Ireland, has been appointed to the executive committee of Clia UK & Ireland on the back of continued growth in the river sector, after figures showed the British river cruise market grew by 10 per cent in 2014.
On taking up his position, Steward said: “CLIA is an outstanding trade association that has played a central role in fostering the growth of cruise holidays. I am particularly interested in assisting the development of river cruising, which is increasingly being seen as a fantastic way to explore a destination – not only because the “hotel travels with you” but also because the top operators are pioneering wonderfully engaging land-based experiences guests will never forget.”
Steward joins fellow executive committee members Gerard Tempest, Carnival UK; Nathan Philpott, Fred. Olsen; Lynn Narraway, Holland America Line and Seabourn; Paul Ludlow, Princess Cruises; Stuart Leven, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line; Helen Caron, Thomson & Island Cruises and Kathryn Beadle, Uniworld.
CLIA UK & Ireland director, Andy Harmer said: “We are delighted Ray has joined the Executive team at a time when the river sector is showing remarkable growth, particularly within Europe, so his insight will help the Association with its core aim of encouraging more people to take a cruise holiday – both river and ocean.”
